OVERVIEW
Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia, is going to conduct the Fourth International Conference on Indonesian Studies 9-10 February 2012 in Bali entitled “ Unity, Diversity and Future”. Indonesia as the unity with multi-cultural and ethnical backgrounds has dynamically grown and this growth is marked by the significant changes of geographical, political-cultural and economic-political aspects, particularly after the 1998 reform era. The discourse of multicultural values, therefore, is getting stronger and leading tothe development of national identity and character. This national identity was actually built from the national historical values strengthened by the efforts to set up the national identity in the post-colonial era, to the identity problems in the reformasi(reform) era. Indonesia in the future, then, is to strengthen the nation through defense and security, community welfare and health, the improvement of educational sector quality, technological advancement and multi-media culture in the information and globalization era.
